Learning in the South Downs

Travel Grant

The South Downs National Park Travel Grant helps around 2,000 pupils to visit the South Downs National Park each year.

The Travel Grant allows schools to claim up to £300 towards travel costs when visiting any eligible education providers on the National Park Learning Map.

All eligible schools are emailed when the travel grant opens (typically shortly after the Easter Holiday) and the grant is awarded on a first-come first-served basis. 1 in 5 schools within and around the National Park are eligible for the grant. Eligibility is based on proximity to the National Park and the percentage of pupils eligible for Free School Meals.

Our school surveys have identified the cost of travel to sites as a key barrier to visiting the South Downs National Park. The Travel Grant aims to reduce this barrier, allowing more young people to have access to the fantastic learning opportunities with the South Downs National Park and to capitalise on the opportunities presented by the South Downs Curriculum.
