Learning in the South Downs

Travel Grant

The South Downs National Park Authority Travel Grant helps over 2,000 pupils to visit the South Downs National Park each year.

The Travel Grant allows eligible schools* to claim up to £300 towards travel costs when visiting any education provider or site in the South Downs National Park. Search on the National Park Learning Map or check the list below for destinations. Our list is not exhaustive, if you feel a provider or site should be added, please get in touch.

Our school surveys have identified the cost of travel to sites as a key barrier to visiting the South Downs National Park. The Travel Grant aims to reduce this barrier, allowing more young people to have access to the fantastic learning opportunities within the South Downs National Park and to capitalise on the opportunities presented by the South Downs Curriculum.

*To be eligible, your school must have 10% or more pupils eligible for Free School Meals through Pupil Premium Funding. We use the “Get information about schools service” as our data source to determine eligibility. Applications can be made up to 12 months in advance of your planned visit. Your school can make one application per school year using the form below.  The fund is limited and grants are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. We will update this page if we are not currently accepting applications.
